Short version: we don’t track you. Here’s what that means and where the edges are.
What we don’t do
No analytics. No advertising trackers. No pixels, no measurement cookies, nothing sold or handed to anyone. We don’t know who visits this site, and it’s built that way on purpose.
The map
The community map on the Resources page is hosted by Google, and it doesn’t load until you press the button. Until you do, Google hears nothing about you. If you press it, Google sees your IP address the same way it would on any site with a Google map. There’s also a link to open it on Google’s own site instead, if you’d rather keep it off our page entirely.
Comments
If you comment on a post, WordPress saves your name, your email address, your IP address, and your browser’s user agent. That’s WordPress’s default, not a choice we made, and it sits in our database. You don’t have to use your real name or a working email. Nothing checks.
There is an option to show avatar images next to comments, which sends every reader’s IP address to a third party and publishes a lookup-able version of each commenter’s email in the page source. Yeah. We turned it off.
Server logs
Our host keeps standard web server logs, which include IP addresses. Every website on the internet has these. We don’t read them and we don’t do anything with them.
Links out
When you click through to another organization, you’re on their site under their rules. Same goes for our Facebook group. Facebook is Facebook.
Taking something down
Want your comment gone? Email SiouxFallsMutualAid@gmail.com or message us in the Facebook group and it’s gone. No form, no process, no questions.
