Ask us for a thing. You don’t have to explain why you need it, or prove you’ve tried everything else. Nobody here is deciding whether you deserve it.
Buuut,
we’re a few of us doing this when we can. There’s no desk and no phone queue. If you need something tonight, Help Right Now may be faster.
Two ways to ask
The Facebook group has more eyes on it, so it usually moves quicker. Not everyone has Facebook. Hence the email.

What to put in it
The ask. Short is fine. Baby stroller. Ride to a dialysis appointment Thursday. Winter coat, kid’s size 8.
Anything that helps us help. When you need it, what part of town you’re in, whether you can pick something up or need it brought to you.
How to reach you, and anything worth knowing about that. Texts are better than calls. Can’t answer during the day. That sort of thing.
What happens next
One of us reads it. If somebody has the thing, we put you in touch, or we pass messages back and forth if you’d rather not hand over your number.
We don’t publish what you wrote. If your ask goes on a public list, one of us writes that listing, and your words and your details aren’t in it.
Sometimes we won’t find it. We’ll tell you that instead of leaving you waiting.
What we keep
Right now this is an email inbox and a Facebook group, so what you send sits in those like any other message. When we build a request form here, we’ll say exactly what it stores and for how long, and we’ll keep that list short.
