We change oil, and we show you how.
The Repair Committee runs occasional events where we do oil changes and teach whoever wants to learn. Not just doing it for you, though we will do that. Showing you where the drain plug is on your own car, so the next one is yours.
We also take requests for other projects.
What it costs
Nothing for the work. That part is never a question.
Parts are free too, when we have them on hand. When we do not, we put the word out and try to find the part. Sometimes that happens fast and sometimes it does not, and we would rather tell you where things stand than leave you waiting on a maybe.
Donations are always welcome and never expected. Nobody gets asked what they can pay before we help.
The oil change cards
Download the oil change cards (PDF, two cards to a sheet)
Print double sided and cut in half.
The front holds your year, make and model, then the oil type, how much it takes, the filter size and the drain plug size. The back is for where the drain plug and the filter actually are on your particular car, and the mileage of your last change.
That sounds fussy until you are standing in the parts aisle trying to remember whether it takes five quarts or five and a half. Fill one in once and you stop looking it up. Keep it in the glovebox.
Next oil change day
Oil change days get posted on the calendar with the time and the place. They are not on a fixed schedule, so check there rather than guessing.
Asking for help with something else
Message the Facebook group, or email SiouxFallsMutualAid@gmail.com. Tell us what is broken and roughly where you are. We will tell you honestly whether it is something we can take on.
We are neighbours with tools and time, not a shop. Some things are beyond us and we would rather say so than leave you waiting.
Committees are how the work gets organised
Repair is one of them. If you want to join one, start one, or you have a skill you would rather teach than keep, the same two doors work: the Facebook group or SiouxFallsMutualAid@gmail.com.
